  • Focus on improving food systems and increasing exports to foreign markets.

ROME - Serbia is continuing its close cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), caretaker Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dragan Glamočić said on Thursday in Rome.

Speaking to Serbian media, Glamočić said the FAO had played an important role in preparing Serbia’s 2026-2034 agricultural strategy. He added that the country already has a well-developed farm sector and is among the few states that export more food than they import.

The minister said the next priority is to strengthen food systems, especially companies and distribution centers that can deliver Serbian goods to foreign markets, including China. In his view, this would help Serbia increase exports further.

Glamočić also said Serbia’s agriculture is strong but still has room to improve, and that development of new food systems and the food industry would make the sector even more competitive. For foreign investors and partners, that points to continued interest in logistics, food processing and export infrastructure.

After a bilateral meeting with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, Glamočić said their talks focused on continuing Serbia-FAO cooperation. He added that he was honoured to meet Qu again at the 6th World Food Forum, noting that they had also met at a forum in Ethiopia last year.

The minister described Qu as a friend of Serbia and said the FAO chief had helped the country through his personal contribution as well. Further details on possible projects or agreements were not announced.
