The opposition Student List has achieved a significant victory in Serbia's recent parliamentary elections.
- Student List won 52.65% of the vote, securing 140 seats.
- Voter turnout was reported at 68.8%.
- United Serbia, led by Aleksandar Vučić, received 39.2% of the vote.
According to the latest figures released by the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) on Monday, the opposition Student List won an outright majority in Serbia’s snap parliamentary elections with 52.65 per cent of the vote. The Serbian Progressive Party’s “United Serbia” list, led by President Aleksandar Vučić, took 39.2 per cent.
The results are based on vote counts from 8,135 polling stations out of 8,392. RIK said voter turnout reached 68.8 per cent.
The figures are broadly in line with estimates published by election monitors. The Centre for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) and Ipsos, which monitored the vote together, said on Monday that their sample showed the Student List on 52.9 per cent and United Serbia on 38.8 per cent.
On that basis, the Student List is projected to win 140 seats in the National Assembly, Serbia’s parliament, while United Serbia is expected to take 103. That would give the Student List enough seats to form a government without a coalition partner.
The remaining mandates are expected to go to parties representing national minorities. The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians is projected to win three seats, while the Albanian Coalition is expected to win two.
The lists “Rasim Ljajić - The People (SDP-CDP)” and “SDA Sandžak - Guardians of Sandžak” are each projected to win one seat. Both represent the Bosniak national minority.
The Student List emerged from the student movement that led nearly two years of protests after the collapse of the Novi Sad railway station canopy in November 2024, which killed 16 people. Its slate was made up mostly of experts and professors selected by students.
The group has not yet named its candidate for prime minister, although the first name on the list was Ilija Srdanović, a professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad.
The next step is the formal confirmation of the final results and the start of the process of constituting the new parliament.
